CHINA 2000 100YUAN DRAGON POLYMER BANKNOTES 6PCS

Just got these banknotes back from PMG. The People's Bank of China issued the polymer note in November 2000 to commemorate the Millennium. With a vivid dragon design it also commemorates the Year of the Dragon. It was printed in China at the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPMC). Securency, the joint venture between the Reserve Bank of Australia and UCB SA of Belgium, in Melbourne supplied the substrate on a made to order, press ready state i.e. it included embedded security features.

This was the first polymer banknotes of China and are very popular and fond among the chinese because of the Dragon symbol that represents the chinese emperors. The chinese believes they are the children of dragons and they are born leaders and are gifted with power and luck.

Begining of last three years ago in 2011 the price of this banknote hit the peak at all time high of MYR1800.00 each (ungraded) for "J" series and MYR3000.00 each (ungraded) for the "I" series (replacement note). Thereafter the price has soften and consolidated between MYR700.00 - MYR1000.00 per piece for the "J" series and MYR1200.00 - MYR1500.00 for the replacement note "I" series respectively.

Currently the consolidation phase is over and the price has stated to slowly move upwards with the most recent sales recorded at USD550.00 for an ungraded note of "J" series and follow by USD650.00 for PMG 66EPQ. Unfortunately i don't have any recent record for the "I" series.

PMG VERSUS OTHER THIRD PARTY GRADING COMPANIES

Since i was recently promoted to ELITE member (the highest in PMG ranking) of PMG and NGC i wanted to know how strict PMG grading are comparing with other third party grading companies.
As every collectors knew there are only two very reputable grading companies in the world that is PCGS (banknotes & coins) and PMG (banknotes) and NGC for coins.

Hence i wanted to put PMG to test and see how it fair against PCGS and the others.

And here's the result :-

The above 2 pictures are the same banknotes. First I cut out the Malaya $5 KGVI from PCGS encapsulate and then I sent the "naked" banknote to PMG for grading and came back the same result PMG 45EPQ both companies has equal judgement.

But i very much prefer PMG because it has an air-tight holder or casing compare with PCGS non air-tight holder.

You can see there are vast different between CGC grading company which are less strict compare with PMG. Firstly, CGC had over graded by one tier as AUNC and follow by 55PQ (original paper quality) compare with PMG graded as 45 (Extremely Fine) only without the EPQ.

Alpha Numismatics is a local Malaysian company located in Kuala Lumpur and is managed by its owner Mr.Gilbert. He also offer grading service and grade banknotes by himself.

I have sent two pieces of 1941 $1 KGVI that i have cut out from the holders and sent to PMG for grading and still waiting for its return. I will keep you updated with the results.

MALAYSIA PARLIAMENT COIN BROKE RECORD !

Kwong Wah Yip Poh dated 6th Oct 2014

Once again two of our Malaysian Parliament coins has broken records for the highest paid in the recent concluded Collectibles Auction Asia in Singapore. The auction was held in Landmark Village Hotel, Singapore on the 4th Oct 2014.

The first record broken was the 1969 50sen Parliament coin Milled Edge (ME), NGC MS65 with a realized price of an astonishing RM81,846.00 ! (SGD28,000 + 15% buyer's premium = SGD32,200 X 2.54180 exchange rate = RM81,846.00).

And the second record broken was the 1970 1sen Parliament coin Copper Clad Steel (mintage less than 100pcs) sold for RM46,275.00. (SGD16,000 + 15% buyer's premium = SGD18,400 X 2.54180 exchange rate = RM46,275.00).

Please read here the previous auction for these two coins
CAA auction 3/2014 )

Another 50sen Parliament coin 1967 NGC MS65 Milled Edge sold for RM7600.00 (included buyer's premium).

However there are also some dissapointments :-

1)Malaysia 1969 50sen Parliament coin Security Edge (SE) NGC MS62 sold for only a mere RM820.00 drastically fell from last year 29th Sept 2013 MNS auction record of RM2800.00 for a raw coin - NON GRADED !

Please read here the previous MNS acution for this coin
MNS auction 29th Sept 2013 )

2)Malaysia 1971 10sen Parliament coin has cooled down from RM1600.00 for NGC MS66 to several Lot passed of the same grade without any bid. But there was a bid for a low grade 1971 coin graded by NGC "AU Details" for a mere RM295.00 only.

And as usual happy reading.

IS NUMISMATICS AN OPTION TO HEDGE AGAINST INFLATION ?

While everyone are bracing themselves for the impending implementation of GST by 6% next year 1st April 2015 and our government seem do not fail to surprise many of us of the fuel price increase by another 20 cents per liter with immediate effect 2nd Oct 2014. For your info, our Malaysian government has increased fuel prices almost every year or otherwise bi-yearly affair without fail.

The past reasons given was international oil price increases hence we have to follow in tandem but now the international oil price has dipped below than USD95.00 per barrel the lowest in 2 years but our fuel price increased instead ! That does not make sense right ?

You can forget about all the reasons given to us whether they are valid or make any sense or not because we are just an ordinary citizen of the country and we follow what our government says.

But what if you can do something to help protect yourself from inflation. Inflation means your money are getting lesser value or becoming smaller hence everything become more expensive. Some people buys properties, paintings and numismatics because the prices keep increasing overtime. As for numismatics new collectors are increasing each month and supply are limited. With the continuous swelling demand against the backdrop of limited supply this will ensued to increase in prices.

These are the best options to hedge against inflation.
