KWONG WAH YIT POH 24th May 2016

The chinese daily Kwong Wah Yit Poh had published an article on Malaysian numismatics on coins and banknotes and i was featured in the article with the 1976 Conservation series the Malayan Tapir/Cipan Proof gold coin.

However the market price was "mis-quoted" for this "Perfect" score gold coin grade as PF70 by NGC.

On 5th January 2015 a similar coin with the same grade was auctioned by Heritage Auctions House
in New York ended with the hammer price of USD17,625.00.

Heritage Auction 5th Jan 2015

The proof version gold coin has a mintage of 508pcs and 2894pcs for Brilliant Uncirculated version respectively.

You can read more about this Tapir/Cipan gold coin and the Conservation/WWF series by clicking here and here and here

Happy reading.

MORE FREQUENT OF NEW ISSUES OF COMMEMORATIVE COINS FROM 2016 AND BEYOND ?

Malaysian coin collectors / hobbyist have every reasons to be excited about for looking forward to collect new issues. From this year onwards it seem like there are more new issues coming out from BNM more frequent than the past years.

So far there were already two commemorative coins issued for this year, on the 28th Feb the new issue was World Table Tennis Championship (International theme) and 16th April 70th Anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (Domestic theme). And if the speculation is true the next coming issue will be the 50th Anniversary of Yayasan Sabah expected to launch in between end of May to June'16.

World Table Tennis Championship coin issued on 28th Feb 2016.

70th Anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia coin issued on 16th April 2016.

However, there are some changes in the new issues and reduction in mintages. It is obvious that BNM no longer issue commemorative gold coins and the mintage of single silver proof coin has reduced to 500pieces from 2000peices and 10,000pieces from 25,000pieces for Nordic gold coin B.U. (Coin card) respectively. BNM no longer issue Set of 3 comprises of Gold (1/4oz, 999 gold), Silver proof & Nordic Gold proof and individual "stand-alone" Single Gold coin (1/4oz. 999 gold). With the reduction of mintages and without the gold coins it would be easily absorbed by the market forces.

Therefore BNM could issue more frequent new commemorative coins in a year and most likely would be six times this year (bi-monthly) compare with the previous three times in a year.

Exciting times ahead for Malaysian collectors.

Enjoy.....
