SINGAPORE COMMEMORATIVE COINS VERSUS MALAYSIA COMMEMORATIVE COINS

Singapore is issuing its latest commemorative coins on 28th May 2015 to mark its 50th Independence (Merdeka).
Set of 3 price SGD1100.00, mintage 500sets

Single silver 1oz. price SGD133.00, mintage 15,000pcs

Single Cuorpo-Nickel BU coin price SGD28.00, mintage : On Demand (unlimited)

Single gold 1/4oz. 999.9 pure gold (7.776grams) price SGD890.00, mintage 2000pcs

Commemorative coins last issued by BNM

Set of 3 price RM2100.00, mintage 750sets

Set of 2 price RM250.00, mintage 750sets

Single proof 1oz. silver price RM200.00, mintage 2000pcs

Single proof 99.99 pure gold 1/4oz. (7.96grams) price RM1800, mintage 500pcs

Nordic god coin price RM10, mintage 25,000pcs

Just comparing the prices and the quantity issued by MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore) versus BNM (Bank Negara Malaysia) last issued in 2014.

In term of pricing and mintages between these two central banks there are vast different. And now let's compare the population of Singapore of 5.47million people (latest survey done in 2014) against Malaysia population of 30.644 293 million people (latest survey done in 1st Jan 2015).

Furthermore Singaporean collectors are also collecting our Malaysian commemorative coins. Do you still think our commemorative coins mintages are high ?

Let me simply put it to you our Malaysia commemorative coins prices are too "cheap' comparing with it's low mintage.

Malaysian collectors tend to have the herd mentality always like to chase up the price when they are too late. So you're advised to buy first before the supply are depleted.

Happy collecting.

MALAYSIA PROOF COINS SECOND UNBOXING FROM NGC

I was amaze with NGC on how fast they grade my proof coins and return back to me.

I sent my proof coins sets to NGC for grading on the 9th February 2015 and received back my coins on 23rd February 2015 (12 working days turnaround time).

This lot contains mostly Malaysia proof coins set of 2 (silver & nordic gold coins) and as expected that the proof nordic gold coins did not grade as high as the silver coins PF70. I'm sharing with you my second unboxing as below here.

Proof silver coins

Proof Nordic gold coins

Set of 2 (silver & nordic gold coins)

The quality of the the nordic gold coins are poorer compare with the silver coins. You will be surprise to find them oxidized even for the recent issues that was issued in 2014. My advice to you send them for grading immediately after BNM releases the coins hence you will have better chance to achieve high grades for both silver and nordic gold coins.

As for the proof silver coins it is advisable to send for grading before 24 months after issued to prevent white spots from developing thereafter. Once encapsulated by NGC the aging of your coins will stop.

I will be sending my next shipment to NGC for grading on 31st March 2015 and my fee is RM130 each coin with 12 working days turn around time with insurance included. Those of you want to send your coins for grading please contact me for more information at 012-4316178.

Happy Reading,
Andrew

MALAYSIAN PROOF NORDIC GOLD COINS

Currently Malaysian commemorative coins are slowly heating up and in contrast the modern Malaysian banknotes are cooling off.

Presently there are more and more collectors are sending their commemorative coins to NGC for grading. The real challenge here are to obtain highest grade of PF70 for the proof Nordic gold coin that only come in Set of 2 and Set of 3. Many collectors are disappointed with the poor quality of proof Nordic gold coins (Cu89 Zn5 Al5 Sn1) that are easily oxidized after a year.

So take it as a challenge, try to obtain PF70 for your Nordic gold coins.

2007 Police set of 2 (Proof silver + Nordic god coins)

2009 Astronomy set of 2 (Proof silver + Nordic god coins)

2010 KTM set of 2 (Proof silver + Nordic god coins)

2011 WWF set of 2 (Proof silver + Nordic god coins)

Happy reading.

MALAYSIA SILVER PROOF COINS

Just want to share with all of you to witness the unboxing from NGC of my silver coins received from Fedex recently.

19pcs graded NGC PF70 & 1pc graded NGC PF69

I'm very pleased to have achieved 19pieces perfect grade PF70 except for 1piece PF69. You should not take it for granted that all Malaysian proof coins will "automatically" achieve highest grade, you're recommended to screen through all coins before send them for grading. It is not easy to achieve PF70 as a slightest imperfection will down grade the marks.

Sending and receiving coins to and from NGC are very expensive due to the weight of the coins sending to the United States and doubled the weight once it was slabbed by NGC while returning back to you. Fedex cost from Penang to US is RM320.00 and the return from US to Penang RM600.00. Once the package arrived at Penang airport there are Customs Duties and Sales Tax total 17% of the invoice value i need to pay before the package can be cleared out and release from the airport customs department. On top of that there are insurance for the coins to be paid as too.

So all of these are unforseen charges need to be incorporated as cost into the individual coins and that was the reason for dealers to sell at high price once it was graded. Matter of fact the dealers does not earn so much as what you might think but because of the high cost incurred.

Happy reading.
