PENANG BANKNOTES & COIN FAIR 25TH & 26TH APRIL 2015

The Penang coin fair at Komtar was organized by SP Xinxiaolang by the organizer Mr. Bert Chang and Khoon Huat Lim. This was the first and the largest coin fair ever held in Penang over the weekend. It was deemed successful with over 6000 people young and old from all walks of life attended the fair with over forty one dealers. Penang is just a small economy and having 6000 people attended the fair considered very commendable. Normally large banknotes and coin fairs are held in big economy place like in Singapore and the capital Kuala Lumpur where the power of "disposable income" of the financial standing per capital basis are strong.

On the first day of the fair many have complained the air-conditioning was not cold enough and was too hot and humid as it was too crowded throng with people and it was immediately rectify by adding a powerful air cooler on the back end. Another suggestion by most of the dealers are to have a larger bourse table hence they could display more items.

The key to the success attributed to the well-known dealers from as far as West Malaysia to the south of Malaysia - Singapore. It also attracted the attention of print media where it provide wide publicity coverage to the general public.

Some activities are going on literally behind the fair. The price here are cheaper than "the other side".

Hopefully the fair will be bigger next year.

However for the general market as a whole the Malaysian paper money market are still in consolidating mode and prices are remain weak whereby many lots passed without a bid, these shows collectors are less enthusiast on paper money.

Besides the gloomy picture comes a few silver linings where those laggards are now slowly rising. This is like a rotational play that shows collectors had change focus.

The recent concluded Collectibles Auction Asia # 5/2015 on 18th April 2015 in Singapore saw the rise of Malaysia Commemorative proof coins. Many times i have mentioned on my previous posts that our Malaysian commemorative proof coins were under valued and are laggards compare with the Parliament circulation coins. I hope you have heed my advice and have bought earlier before the start of the rise.

Now it seems that the collectors are starting to realise how rare was our commemorative coins are and so inexpensive compare with Singapore's commemorative coin issues.

In numismatics you must have a good foresight to know what is coming next and immediately buy first and hedge against the future before the rise.

Just comparing the prices and the quantity issued by MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore) versus BNM (Bank Negara Malaysia) last issued in 2014.

In term of pricing and mintages between these two central banks there are vast different. And now let's compare the population of Singapore of 5.47million people (latest survey done in 2014) against Malaysia population of 30.644 293 million people (latest survey done in 1st Jan 2015). 

Furthermore Singaporean collectors are also collecting our Malaysian commemorative coins. Do you still think our commemorative coins mintages are high ?

Let me simply put it to you our Malaysia commemorative coins prices are too "cheap' comparing with it's low mintage. 

Malaysian collectors tend to have the herd mentality always like to chase up the price when they are too late. So you're advised to buy first before the supply are depleted.

FACEBOOK CONMAN BEWARE !

Beware of this FACEBOOK scammer :

This guy contacted me on Facebook and told me he wanted to sell 1967 RM1000 SARIBU to me for RM2000.00, i was surprised the price was so low and the reason he gave me was he needed money urgently. I told him i dont trust you unless you post to me first and I will pay to you once i have received.

After he has posted to me he asked for deposit of RM150.00 because he need money to pay his Segi college fee. So i bank in for him RM150.00 into his CIMB bank account (details as above).

Thereafter he asked for another RM130.00 he said he just met with an accident and this time i refused. He sent sms to me the whole day from morning until at night trying to pester me to bank in another RM130.00 into his bank account. But i still refused. I told him i will bank in the balance of RM1850.00 once i have received the note.

While waiting for my poslaju to arrive from Sarawak to Penang he offered to me several of the high value notes such as these :- 

These are the high value notes he offered to me at very low prices but i have sensed something fishy, thus i rejected his offer.

At first he tried to cheat me by bank in the full amount first but i refused. Thereafter he tried to cheat me by deposit some small amount first after he has sent out the item. So he managed to cheat me for RM150.00 only, thank god not more than this amount.

This is what i have received from him today 6th April 2015.

WHERE IS MY RM1000 1967 SARIBU ? He sent to me 50sen + 10sen = 60sen. Hahahaha !

So i do some research on Facebook on him and found there are so many cases he had cheated on so many people already, from selling "gadgets to paper money". Some has reported to the Sarawak police and he was detained before.

There are so many people out there fell victims to his scam.
