AUCTION PRICE REALIZED - THE WORLD TEAM TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 COPPER COIN

This was the first commemorative coin issue of 2016 - The World Team Table Tennis Championships 2016. This international tournament was represented by more than 100 countries. It was held from February 28 to March 6 at Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

Unfortunately, there was no gold coin issued to mark this event, however it was replaced by Copper coin instead. This series comprises of Single proof silver (500pcs minted), Set of 2- Silver proof & Proof Nordic Gold (2000pcs minted), Copper coin Matte finish (150pcs minted) & Copper coin Proof-Like finish (150pcs minted), Nordic Gold coin Brilliant Uncirculated (10000pcs minted in coin cards).

In this issue we have seen some changes in issuing by BNM, for instances, there were no gold coins issued, copper coins were issued with two different finishing - Matte & Proof Like, the mintage for single Silver proof coins has reduced significantly to 500pcs only and that is a major reduction and the same goes for the Nordic gold (BU) coin issued in coin cards with only 10000pcs minted a reduction from 25000pcs base from the past issues.

It was rather disappointing that the public was unable to purchase the copper coins over the counter due to its extremely low mintage, therefore it was put on auction with 60pcs for Matte & 60pcs for PL finishing.

MNP AUCTION OF COPPER COIN 6th March 2016

The copper coins was auction at Sasana kijang with only 60pcs PL & 60pcs Matte finishing and the realized prices was preposterous. The Copper Matte coins was realized between MYR1800 -MYR2000each and the Proof Like Copper coins was realized between an average of MYR2000 - MYR2400each.

Note : Realized prices are subject to Buyer's Premium 15% for floor bidding & 20% BP incurred for online bidding. (No GST incurred).

1967 RM1000 1st SERIES SA-RIBU SELLING FOR RM32,500 (UNGRADED)

Just some high lights from the recent numismatics fair at Megamall, Penang - a single piece of RM1000 1st series 1967 bank note ungraded (however grade were not mentioned) are selling for RM32,500. The seller claimed the current retail price for this piece of banknote is almost doubled.

Let's look at the past auction results, during the Monetarium auction on 24th Oct 2014 for a single piece of SA-RIBU with 50EPQ AUNC asking for SGD21,000 but the lot was passed. Then comes the Mavin auction there were 2pcs of AUNC 55EPQ & 55 consecutive notes asking for SGD42,000 however the lot was passed without a single bid. Are the asking price too high ?

So question goes back to the above article from the seller Michael Chew asking price for just RM32,500 for and ungraded RM1000 SA-RIBU is it too cheap ?

However, collecting numismatics banknotes are certainly better than keeping money in the bank for sure.

1976 CONSERVATION SERIES PROOF SILVER COINS OR WWF

In 1975-1976 the Royal Mint UK together with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and IUCNNR (World Wildlife Fund, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) issued a 12 pieces collection of silver proof coins, two each from from six different countries (Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sudan, Venezuela & Zaire). In 1974-1976, 24 countries mint 1 gold and 2 silver coins (In total 24 gold coins & 48 silver coins) for Wildlife conservation series with each coin featuring an endangered species from that country. The countries that were invited to issued conservation coins: Afghanistan, Botswana, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Falkland Islands, Gambia, Indonesia, Jordan, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Venezuela, Zaire and Zambia.

All three pairs graded by NGC PF69

Minted by Royal Mint U.K

Thus making this issue an international theme and highly sought after by collectors worldwide who wanted to make a complete set of 24 pieces of gold coins and 48 pieces of silver coins set.

Current market price for an NGC PF69 pair is MYR2500.00

COLLECTORS HUNT 2012 MALAYSIA 12TH SERIES PREMIUM SET OF 6

The folder contains all the new denominations from RM1 to RM100 with the same prefix and serial numbers.

It is about time for Malaysia 12th series Premium set to rise and you better get it now if you hasn't. By now everyone knows Bank Negara governor Zeti Aziz will not renew her contract after her term end in April 2016.

This set is the cheapest and most valuable and will be the last commemorative banknotes under Zeti with mintage of just 50,000 sets issued under her tenure as governor of BNM and has been on "hibernating' mode for long time since it was issued. Many banknotes traders and collectors are quietly accumulating this set under the radar since Zeti's announcement.

Today 11th Dec 2015, this set could still be found available on Ebay Malaysia for MYR400.00 not far from it's issue price of MYR300.00. I believe MYR400.00 will not last for long.

Malaysia banknotes have significant interest from collectors from mainland China and Singapore and with the drastic drop in MYR currency this "Premium set" are too attractive for the foreign collectors to collect or to hoard !

HONG KONG COMMEMORATIVE BANKNOTES

It has been a while since i have blogged as i was too pre-occupied with my daily work.

This topic i would like to write about Hong Kong commemorative replacement banknotes that i have just received from PMG after 3 months of waiting.

2015 HSBC "AB" prefix & 2012 BOC "AB" prefix

Hong Kong dealers claimed the recent issue of 150th anniversary of HSBC $150 2015 with "AB" prefix was a replacement banknotes as similar as the past issues. But after my notes came back from PMG without "replacement/star" and without the "Pick numbers" too as it was still new and have yet to be recorded in Krausse papermoney catalogue hence it was listed as "UNL150a4" (Unlisted).

I was told by a friend of mine Mr.Gilbert of Alpha Numismatics ( Alpha Numis website ) that the replacement banknote for HSBC circulation banknote is "ZZ" prefix, however we have not ascertain the prefix for the replacement banknote for the 2015 150th HSBC anniversary $150 yet or whether do they existed ? There were no information from Hong Kong's central bank on this replacement issue. The normal ones are "AA", "AB", "HK", "HSBC". Among these four prefixes the "HSBC" prefix has the lowest mintage of 10,000 pcs issued.

Whereas the replacement banknote for the 2012 $100 100th anniversary Bank of China commemorative banknotes are "AB" prefix (as above photo).

SPINK SINGAPORE AUCTION REALIZED PRICES AND HIGHLIGHTS 16TH AUGUST 2015
